Sandy Smith, Sandpoint Chapter
Idaho Writer's League
2005 Lifetime Achievement Award
2003 Published Writer of the Year
Sandy was born and raised in southern California. Her grandmother was a librarian and that's where she learned to love stories that took her to other worlds. She wanted to become a writer the day she wrote a two-page mystery story in the second grade. But it wouldn't happen until years later after she and her husband, five children and two great Danes packed up their belongings and moved from Santa Ana, California, to the beautiful northern Idaho Panhandle.
After the children left the nest, Sandy went back to college to study art and rediscovered writing. She wrote weekly columns for two newspapers, and contributed to travel magazines and newsletters before her neighbor brought her a romance novel by Janet Dailey to read. Sandy was hooked. Writing about finding love and happy endings seemed just perfect since she believes that is what life is all about.
She is now a grandmother and great-grandmother. There are still children galloping through the house most days, but that only gives her more ideas for putting love and laughter on the page. She joined forces with the Grande Dames in 2001, meeting them through the online mystery chapter of RWA. Their stories are about heroes and heroines between forty and sixty years old. The Dames wrote Just in Time Anthology, stories of love, laughter, mystery and intrigue. Their next book, The Trouble With Romance, tales of a black cat named Trouble, who somehow acts like he's cupid, will be out next year. They are now working on another anthology where found Tarot cards brings couples together. After that, possibly a series of books about a ghost in Virginia City, Nev. Writing has become a part of Sandy's life and Larry, the love of her life puts up with her crazy writing hours. He's also convinced real life is about love and happy endings. | | |
