Sandpoint Chapter

The Idaho Writer's League is a state wide organization of published and unpublished writers. Our members write everything from memoirs, poetry, children's books, and romance novels to fantasy, Christian, action adventure, screen plays, non-fiction--you name it. We have six chapters throughout the state.

The Sandpoint Chapter meets twice a month. The first and third Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the East Bonner Library on 1407 Cedar Street. At our meetings we take time to let everyone know if we've submitted anything. We brag if something's been accepted and we cheer each other on. We usually have a five minute free-write where someone throws out a topic and we write about it. We also have our very important critique session. If you have something you'd like critiqued, just bring it to the meeting.

Members let each other know if they've heard of a new publication so those interested can submit work to them. It's a wonderful way to be around others who know about writing and understand other writers. Non-writers don't know how to critique our work the way it needs to be, to get published. They worry about hurting our feelings or don't know what to look for. Being in a writer's group helps you learn things about your own writing that can improve it immensely.

Our group has fun parties and in-house writing contests with modest prizes that keep us writing at our best. We have periodic workshops and opportunities to improve our craft.

We also have a great conference each year and a fun contest with many categories to choose from. Anyone is welcome to attend three meetings without joining. That should let them know if our writer's group is for them. The cost is only $25 for a year of membership. That includes our bi-monthly chapter newsletter, The League Link, and our quarterly state newsletter, The Leagazette.
