Current projects:
-e-publication of a book of members' writings tentatively titled "Seasons"
-membership recruitment.
Membership is currently on the upswing, and we will return to having two monthly meetings
when that much time is needed for our critiquing sessions. We will likely participate
this year in The Young Writers Contest.
We conduct thoughtful, in-depth critiques, brainsorm ideas, sponsor contests
and workshops, help with works in progress and polishing for publication,
publicize members' work, instruct in writing techniques and honing the craft,
and conduct a separate novelist critique group.
Other advantages include social contact with other writers and their
families, book signings, guest speakers, recommended reading, networking with
other IWL chapters, participation in state contests, and support for youth
writing. Chapters take turns hosting the annual state conference with
speakers and workshops, perchances meeting an agent, and always the
opportunity to rub shoulders with writers outside our own chapter.
Currently, Pocatello Chapter has an electronically published anthology of our
members' writing in the works.
No one has to be a lonely writer. Regardless of genre or whether you write
novels, short fiction, poetry, essays, family chronicles, or autobiography,
or do non-fiction freelancing, any serious writer can benefit from a support
group of like-minded writers. Meetings provide encouragement, understanding,
and information as well as specific comments and suggestions to improve a
manuscript. We share information about publishers, agents, contests, and
other outlets for writers.
The only criteria for membership is a burning need to get your ideas down on
paper and a serious intent to write well. Publication is important to our
members. We work for it. We might make the difference for you.
